The Waverly Novels by Sir Walter Scott
Quite nice set. Melrose Edition De Luxe, #400 of 1000 sets printed for subscribers only. This set is missing volume 9. This set still takes over 4 feet of shelf space. Green silk over boards, spines faded to olive; paper spine labels printed in dark green, salmon and olive; top edges gilt; each volume illustrated, including frontis with captioned tissue guard; title pages with blue lettering and decorated in yellow and gilt. Reprint of the 1892 edition published in London by A. C. Black. Each volume includes: Introduction by Scott; Notes by Scott and Daniel Laing, LL. personal friend of the author; Index; and Glossary of obscure words, phrases and allusions.
These are hardback books, 6" X 8 1/2" tall, about 500 pages per volume. These books are in very good condition with darkening and light soil to green cloth covered boards. The pages are clean and unmarked except for tanning to many endpapers. The spines are strong and straight, no cracks. These books were published by John D. Morris, Philadelphia, PA, about 1900, with no other edition or printing noted, but Publishers' Notice by A. C. Black, at the front of volume one, is dated 1892.
